I didn't just come up with all the names in this short story off the top of my head. Some of them have meaning to me. In the story I explain the John Newton and felidae. But here are some things you might not be aware of.
How about a Denebian Moonlight?
Deneb IV is a notable planet from the Star Trek universe.
You're home city is Robertsville, Trantor, Altair VI.
Robertsville is named after Robert Heinlein, one of my favorite sci-fi authors. Trantor is the capital of the Galactic Empire in Isaac Asimov's series Foundation, which is a series I really got into. Altair IV is another planet from the Star Trek universe.
Your parents are Howard and Dorothy
Howard is named in honor of Merri D. Howard, who was involved in production on the Star Trek universe. Dorothy is the first name of D.C. Fontana, known to millions of sci-fi fans.
So now you know where I got all those names from. It wasn't just a case of them sounding good; I wanted to honor my sci-fi roots.
